The Royal Thai Consulate-General, Guangzhou will hold two special events to showcase Thai food, OTOP (One Tambon (Town) One Product) products, and Thai culture in August 2013.
· On 19 August-9 September 2013, the Consulate-General is in collaboration with the Grand Hyatt Guangzhou to bring the Thai Food Festival to Guangzhou. The Festival Lauch Party takes place on 21 August 2013. During the Festival, Thai chefs with high-class experience from the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok will work the charm of ‘Tom Yam Goong’, ‘Pad Thai’ and many more during buffet lunch and dinner. Guests will relish authentic Thai cuisine while enjoying spectacular performances of the classical dance troupe from Thailand, sponsored by the Consulate-General. They will also be in a lucky draw to win a round-trip air ticket to Thailand with free accommodations. The prizes are sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand Hong Kong Office and Thai Airways International Guangzhou Office.
· On 23-26 August 2013, the Consulate-General will hold the 8th Thai Festival in Guangzhou Fair under the theme “Happily Lost in Thailand”, following the success of Chinese movie “Lost in Thailand”. The Thai Festival in 2013 is the largest scale the Consulate-General has ever held, covering the area of more than 1,000 square meters. In collaboration with Thailand’s Community Development Department and the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Festival will feature more than 100 booths of quality OTOP (One Tambon (Town) One Product) products for visitors to enjoy,including food, hand-made accessories and home decoratives.
At the Festival’s entrance, visitors will be invited to pay homage to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Kingdom of Thailand on the special month. 12 August 2013 marks the occasion of the 81st Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen.
At the central stage, the Consulate-General has prepared a variety of outstanding cultural performances from the Northern Thailand as well as other regions of the country. Specially this year, “Saicheer”, Thai actor from the popular movie “Lost in Thailand” will appear on the stage to meet and greet his fans in China for the first time at the 8th Thai Festival.
A Thai Festival has been held annually during the Guangzhou Fair, providing a great opportunity for the people in Guangzhou and Guangdong to get to know Thailand better. It is also the gesture of Thailand in expressing the country’s hospitality to welcome the visitors from Guangdong with a variety of their activities in Thailand, whether for business, leisure, shopping or travel purposes.
