     On 5th September 2013, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong organised the “Thai Cooking Class 2013” at Moon Thai Restaurant, which received the Thai Select Award 2013. The class was opened by Miss Benjamas Tanvetyanont, Deputy Consul-General. It aimed at promoting knowledge and at enhancing a better understanding about authentic Thai food through the introduction of types and markets for ingredients, spices and seasoning, and detailed procedures of preparing and cooking authentic Thai cuisine. Joined by 19 participants, including spouses of Asian Consul-Generals, the Commissioner of Correctional Services’ spouse, and guests of spouses, as well as the Hong Kong media. Mr. Viboon Harnskunwat, Group Executive Chef of Moon Thai Restaurant, who received 3 Golden Awards during 2011 – 2013 at the International Food Competition held by Chinese Cuisine Training Institute (CCTI), Vocational Training Council (VTC), taught the class how to make 3 dishes of Thai food, comprising Prawn Pad Thai, Red Curry with Roasted Duck and Fresh Fruit, and Seafood Dumpling (Thoong Thong). The activity ignited popularity for Thai cuisine and culinary amongst participants, who are opinion leaders of Hong Kong people and expatriates. These opinion leaders have vouched their support for Thailand’s goal of “Kitchen to the World”. The cooking class has reinforced people-to-people ties in line with our emphasis on public diplomacy.
