Between Wednesday 4th and Saturday 8th September 2013, the Department of Skill Development of the Ministry of Labour, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Hong Kong, together with the Labour Section, have organised the “Examination of the National Labour Standard in the Field of Thai Cuisine Chefs” at Crystal Thai, a Thai restaurant in Hong Kong. Of the total number of 33 examinees, 30 male and female chefs have passed the test and received a certificate. The examination, chaired by Associate Professor Srisamorn Khongphan, a Thai cuisine expert, gained enormous interest from Thai chefs in Hong Kong, as it was the first time this kind of examination, which measured the standard of original Thai cooking skills, had been held. It has raised the awareness on traditional Thai cuisine recipe that has been neglected for a long time. Moreover, this examination has allowed the conservation of ‘Thainess’ of our culinary art.
