Mr. Somchai Wongsawat, former Prime Minister of Thailand and Advisor to Pheu Thai Party together with Pheu Thai Party delegation of 8 people paid a visit to Vietnam upon the invitation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on 31 September – 4 October 2013.
During the visit, Mr. Somchai Wongsawat paid courtesy calls on H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The two leaders discussed cooperation between Pheu Thai Party and CPV to strengthen the cordial relations between the two countries and parties after Thailand and Vietnam has elevated the bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership during the official visit to Thailand of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong in June this year. H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his appreciation to the cooperation with the Thai Government under the leadership of Pheu Thai Party both in bilateral and international frameworks as well as in taking care of the Thai nationals of Vietnamese descent. In turn, Mr. Somchai Wongsawat reaffirmed Pheu Thai Party’s determination to enhance friendly relations between the two countries and peoples as well as exchanging experience in party administration and enhancing party-to-party cooperation.
During the visit, Mr. Somchai Wongsawat paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Fatherland Front and had consultations with leaders of CPV as well as visiting the Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi and Quang Ninh Province.
H.E. Mr. Anuson Chinvanno, Ambassador of Thailand also hosted a dinner in honour of Mr. Somchai Wongsawat and his delegation.
