On 18-19  May 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Thailand Foundation, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chengdu and the Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Chengdu organized “Muay Thai and Sichuan Opera in China 2015” at Sichuan Province Theatre, China. The event was held to promote Muay Thai, Thailand’s renowned martial arts, and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Thailand-China diplomatic relationsas well as the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Chengdu.  The show was presided over by Mr. Komate Kamalanavin, Consul-General of Thailand to Chengdu, Mr. Chen Chun, President of Sichuan Province Theatre and Ms. LuoYubin, President of Sichuan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

 

            The event was attended by representatives from both the public and private sectors including Mr. Li Jiaguo, Vice Secretary of Sichuan Provincial Government, Ms. Liu Min, Executive Vice President of the Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and members of the diplomatic corps in Chengdu.

 

            The event attracted over 600 people as well as the local media such as Chengdu News,Chengdu TV andSCTV.  It showcased Muay Thai and ancient Thai boxing demonstrations, as well as Sichuan opera and Chinese Kung Fu performances.  Chengdu is the fifth city after Beijing, Xi An, Kunmingand Qingdao to host the Muay Thai show in China under the Muay Thai Roadshow in China 2015 project, which is held during 4-31 May 2015.
