On 28 April 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Both sides followed up on the outcomes of recent discussions between the leaders of the two countries, especially in the areas of economic and security cooperation, as well as exchange of high-level visits. The two Ministers also exchanged views on current regional challenges within the global trading system, and shifting geopolitical landscapes. They emphasized the importance of maintaining an open, inclusive, and rules-based international trade system while reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing economic integration in multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and BRICS. Moreover, both sides reiterated their strong support for South-South cooperation and expressed determination to work together to address regional challenges, such as transboundary crimes, water resources management, and air pollution, and safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity of the broader region.
