CDA Bancha gives Opening Remarks at Hanyang University on Migration of Thai Nationals in the ROK

On 2 June2025, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Chargé d'affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy, Seoul, on behalf of the Thai Foreign Ministry, gave an opening remarks to welcome participants, comprising of Thai students and media members during their study visit to the ROK on Migration of Thai Nationals in the ROK. This activity aims to promote evidence-based migration discourse and media reporting by reiterating Thailand’s role in promotion of efficient and inclusive migration administration.

Mr. Lee Ki-Jeong, the President of Nanyang University, welcomed Thai participants. Nanyang University, in collaboration with Thai MFA, Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University and International Organization for Migration, Thailand, were ready to support this activity . The university has continuously encouraged inclusive migration.

CDA Bancha emphasized the role of the Royal Thai Embassy , Seoul in providing consular services and Thai national protection for approximately 180,000 Thais residing in the ROK, both legally and illegally, as Thai workers have played an important role in driving the economic and social development of the ROK.

The Royal Thai Embassy has placed high importance on encouraging the Thai community in the ROK to integrate into Korean society and on supporting reduction of the number of Thai illegal workers in the ROK by advising them to join Korea Immigration Service Project for illegal migrants in the ROK to voluntarily return to their own countries. Last year, more than 10,000 Thais illegal migrants voluntarily returned to Thailand. At the same time, the Embassy has promoted more Thais to work in the ROK legally.
